THE QUICK VERSION

NEBULA:FOG:PROTOCOL is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or technical ability.

We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate at any venue, including talks, workshops, parties, social media, and other online communications.

Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the organizers.

02

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

All participants are expected to:

  • Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions
  • Attempt collaboration before conflict
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and fellow participants
  • Alert organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress
  • Participate in an authentic and active way
  • Respect the venue, equipment, and property of others
03

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable:

  • Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language
  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material
  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability
  • Inappropriate photography or recording
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, including sexualized comments, jokes, or imagery
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behavior
04

HACKING ETHICS

As a security-focused hackathon, we have additional guidelines:

  • Only test against systems and services explicitly provided for the event
  • Do not attempt to access other participants' devices or accounts without permission
  • Report vulnerabilities responsibly to organizers, not publicly
  • Do not use tools or techniques that could harm the venue's network or systems
  • Respect intellectual property and properly attribute work
  • Do not engage in any illegal activities under the guise of "hacking"

Remember: We're here to build security, not break trust.

05

REPORTING

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please report it as soon as possible to an event organizer.

You can identify organizers by their [STAFF] badges.

When reporting, please include:

  • Your contact information
  • Names (or descriptions) of individuals involved
  • Description of the behavior and circumstances
  • Any additional witnesses

All reports will be handled with discretion. We will not share identifying information without your consent, except as required by law or to protect others' safety.

06

ENFORCEMENT

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • Warning the offender
  • Expulsion from the event with no refund
  • Banning from future NEBULA:FOG events
  • Reporting to law enforcement if necessary

This code of conduct applies at all event venues and event-related social activities.
